My first coppers of 2018.
« on: February 12, 2018, 06:10:32 PM »

What an awesome day to be in the woods. The sun came out in the afternoon and it warmed up. I didn't even need gloves.

I walked out to some woods surrounding a cellar hole near my house that I've hunted dozens of times. I picked an area about a hundred yards or more from the cellar hole that used to be thick brush ten years ago but now had some room to swing. The inch of snow on the ground was perfect for gridding. I started digging bullets and shotgun shells. The first coin signal got me excited but it was just two memorial cents. Then the T2 showed a solid 82 at 8 inches deep. In the hole was a Draped Bust Large Cent! That just made my day. I kept on gridding, only now with more motivation. Fifty feet away I got another solid ID. This time 89 at 9 inches. I thought Draped Bust Quarter! But it turned out to be a King George. Now I was totally psyched up for a silver. I kept swinging almost til sunset but two coppers was it for today.

Outstanding Badger! That's the way to sniff those deep ones out. The woods are perfect to hunt now in our area. I wish it was a little warmer but better than those sub zeros we had last month

Nice score on the coppers. The ground is still frozen solid around here.

That's how to do away with the midwinter blues.

That's amazing! You have been there a dozen times and they were there waiting all along.. I am very jealous. I just love the site of a copper coming out of the ground. And those are old ones!
